Docs Handbook

Adding to your handbook

Drop objects, draw lines and areas, and add text to the map, then attach photos and notes so your staff can click any item and see the standard.

With your templates ready, adding to the map is quick. Open Add and pick what you’re placing: an object, a line, an area, or text.

Objects

Choose an object from your templates, click the spot on the map, and nudge it into place; you can drag it and rotate it before you commit. Objects suit anything at a single point: a rake station, a bench, a washroom sign. (Tee markers place as a connected pair.)

Lines

Pick a line style, then click along the path point by point and finish the line. Use lines for routes and boundaries: a cart path, a hazard line, an edge you don’t want carts crossing.

Areas

Pick an area style and click the corners to outline a region. Areas are how you mark parking, no-parking, and no-go zones so there’s no guessing.

Start from scratch

Not everything needs a template. The maintenance building, one gate, or the spot where the hose is kept are one-offs. Every picker starts with a Start from scratch row, above your templates, so you can place one without adding anything to Handbook Preferences.

Pick it and you name the entry first:

  • Objects drop as a plain map pin. Give it a name, and set how big the pin is on the map.
  • Lines get a name plus a colour, a width, and a style (solid, dashed, or dotted).
  • Areas get a name plus a perimeter colour, a fill colour, and a fill opacity.

The icon size you pick belongs to that one pin. Templated objects are sized in Handbook Preferences instead, where changing the template resizes every entry using it.

Then you place or draw it exactly as you would a templated entry. Photos, notes, map labels, issues, and relocating all work the same way. Nothing is added to your template list, so the picker stays as short as you built it.

The phone offers the same row with controls sized for a phone: the six standard colours, plus and minus steppers for line width and fill opacity, and the same three line styles. Tap Continue and you’re in placement mode.

Scratch entries can’t be restyled later, the same as templated ones. If you need a different colour, delete it and place it again.

Text

Add a text label straight onto the map: type it, pick a color and size, and place it. Handy for a heading or a callout right where it’s needed.

Finding what you’ve placed

On the web, Entries opens a list beside the map. Filter to objects, lines, areas, or text, and each type collapses into one row, “Bunker Rake, 42.” Open a row to see the individual entries, and click one to select it and fly the map to it. Clicking something on the map works the other way round: its group opens and the row scrolls into view.

On the phone, the Inventory lists everything you’ve added, grouped into objects, lines, and areas, and View on map lights up a whole type and takes you to it.

Add photos and notes

This is what turns the Handbook from a map into a guide. Click any object, line, or area and you can attach photos and write notes on it. A bunker-rake pin can show exactly how the rakes should sit, with a picture to match. When your staff tap it, they see your description and your photos right on the map.

If every entry of a type should say the same thing, set it once on the template instead of typing it on every entry; see Setting up your handbook.
