Every Turfile course starts on a free satellite base map, and for many clubs that is all they need. When you want a sharper or more current picture of the property, you can change it. There are two ways: upload imagery you already have, or request new imagery through Turfile.
Requesting is built into the app. Pick satellite or drone, submit the request form, and our team sources the imagery and publishes it into your workspace as a layer. You approve the quote before anything is purchased.
A fresh satellite pass, on request.
Choose your resolution: 30 centimeters per pixel looks like fresh Google Earth imagery, and 15 centimeters per pixel is roughly twice as sharp, with grass lines, bunkers, and tree canopies clearly visible. You see an estimated cost for each option before you commit to anything.
You can request the most recent capture of your property, or a specific month and year from the past if you want a historical look at the course.
A drone flight at 5 centimeters per pixel.
Drone imagery is the sharpest option, around 5 centimeters per pixel, captured just for your property. Draw the area you want flown directly on the map, pick a preferred date, and Turfile coordinates the drone provider, who handles the flight planning and airspace clearance.
After the flight, the provider builds the orthomosaic and we publish it into your workspace as a layer, ready to turn on.

If you already have a drone survey or an orthomosaic as a GeoTIFF, upload it yourself and it becomes a layer like any other. If what you have is a paper or PDF plan, we will georeference it for you and add it as a layer, so the drawings you already own stay useful.
Sharper imagery makes mapping easier.
Everything you map in Turfile is placed against the base imagery, so a sharper, more current layer makes heads, drain lines, and bunker edges easier to put in the right spot. How do we order satellite imagery of our course?
From the Layers widget on your map: open Manage layers, go to Request imagery, and choose satellite. Pick a resolution and timeframe, see the estimated cost, and submit. Our team finds the closest matching capture, sends you a quote, and nothing is purchased until you approve it. The satellite imagery docs cover each step.
What resolution do we actually need?
30 cm per pixel is a clean, current base map, similar to fresh Google Earth imagery. 15 cm per pixel shows grass lines, bunker edges, and individual tree canopies, which helps when you are tracing surfaces or placing assets precisely. 5 cm drone imagery is for detailed work: fine tracing, close visual inspection, and RTK-grade base mapping.
Do you handle the drone flight logistics?
Turfile coordinates the drone provider and comes back with a firm quote and scheduling options. The provider handles the flight planning and airspace clearance. On your side, you confirm the course permits drone operations and stay reachable on the day of the flight. The drone imagery docs walk through the request.
Can we use drone imagery we already have?
Yes. Upload it as a GeoTIFF and it becomes a layer alongside any imagery you order through Turfile. Paper and PDF plans can be georeferenced by our team and added as layers too.
What does it cost?
Satellite requests show an estimated cost in the app before you submit, based on the resolution you pick, and the final quote comes back for your approval. Drone flights are quoted per flight based on the area you draw. Imagery requesting is included on Standard and Pro plans.
