Docs Trees
Your tree setup
What happens the first time an Owner or Manager opens Trees on the web, where Turfile adds two practice trees for you, shows you a tree's panel, removes them, then walks you through the rest of the toolbar.
The first time you open Trees in a desktop web browser as an Owner or Manager, Turfile shows you how to add a tree, what you can do with it, and the quickest way to add the next one, then walks you through the rest of the Trees toolbar. Turfile does the clicking for you. You only click Next on each card.
The two trees Turfile adds are practice trees. They are only on your screen and are never saved, so the rest of your team doesn’t see them.
Add a tree with the full form
-
“Let’s Map Your Trees” Click Show Me How. If you don’t have time now, click Go Back to Home. The setup opens again the next time you open Trees.
-
“Add a Tree” Turfile clicks Add tree to the map on the left toolbar, then a spot on the map.
-
“Start With the Full Form” Turfile clicks Advanced form. The first tree of a species goes through the full form.
-
“Search the Species” Turfile searches the tree database for “apple” and picks the match. Choosing a species fills in its details for you.
-
“Marker Color” Turfile keeps the suggested marker color.
-
“Fill In Its Details” Turfile names the tree “Practice Apple”, then fills in its age, Imperial units, a Good condition, a note, its height, trunk diameter (DBH), canopy and root zone, and a risk level.
-
“Create the Tree” Turfile clicks Create Tree. The apple tree is on your map and its panel opens.
See the tree’s panel
Turfile shows you the panel, then opens each tab with a short description. Click Next after each one:
- Overview: measurements, condition, risk and a carbon estimate.
- Work: work orders like pruning or removal, assigned to your team.
- Inspections: how often the tree is checked, and each inspection.
- Logs: notes on what was done to the tree.
- History: every change to the tree, newest first.
After History, Turfile closes the panel.
Add the next one the quick way
-
“Now the Quick Way” Turfile clicks Add tree to the map again, then a second spot on the map.
-
“Your Species, Ready to Use” Species already on your map are listed in the chooser. Turfile picks the apple.
-
“Add It in One Click” Turfile clicks Add blank to map. A second apple tree is on your map and its panel opens. You can fill in its details later.
-
“That’s It” Both trees are lit on the map. Click Next and Turfile removes the two practice trees.
Meet the rest of the toolbar
Turfile opens the toolbar and lights each of its other tools in turn, from top to bottom, with a short animation of the tool in use. Nothing is opened or changed. Click Next after each one:
-
“Tree Inventory” Inventory lists every tree on your property, grouped by species or sorted by health, next inspection, height, or risk. Click a tree and the map centers on it. See The tree inventory.
-
“Photo Manager” Photo manager shows every photo added to your trees in one place, including the photos on inspections, work orders, and logs.
-
“Tree History” History lists every completed work order across your trees, newest first. Open one to read its notes and see its photos. See History.
-
“Work Orders” Work orders lists every open work order on your trees: yours under My work orders and everyone’s under Team work orders. Click one to open its tree.
-
“Tree Filters” Tree filters shows only the trees you need, by species, risk, condition, or the equipment and task type of their work orders. Show all risk radii draws every risk circle at once. See Filter the map.
-
“You’re Ready to Map Your Trees” Click Finish Setup.
If you stop partway
- If you reload the page or leave Trees while Turfile is adding the practice trees, the practice trees are removed. The setup starts again from the beginning the next time you open Trees.
- If you reload the page or leave Trees during the toolbar cards, they start again from the first card the next time you open Trees. You don’t repeat the practice trees.
- Once you finish, the setup doesn’t come back.
